IDE mode

IDE mode runs any CLI agent in a terminal, on a worktree: Claude Code, Codex, pi, or orrery itself. Each one is a session in the sidebar, with its own branch, its terminal and an editor beside it.

You do not need the Orrery harness to use IDE mode.

The sidebar

  • Find filters sessions.
  • The menu adds a repository, groups sessions by repository, and shows archived ones.
  • Sessions sit in Running and Not running groups, which fold.
  • Archive a session to hide it; restore it from the archived view.
  • The whole sidebar collapses.

Files and changes

  • The editor opens any file in the worktree.
  • A changed file shows its diff against the index, the same as its +/- counts. The Diff tab folds unchanged lines; the File tab shows the whole file with the changes coloured.
  • The Git panel lists the worktree's changes and updates as the agent writes, without flicker.

Language servers and grammars

Extensions installs language servers on demand, straight from where their authors publish them, each download checked against a pinned SHA-256:

PackDownloaded from
rust-analyzergithub.com/rust-lang/rust-analyzer releases
TypeScript, Pyrightregistry.npmjs.org
Eclipse JDT LS (Java)download.eclipse.org
Node.js runtime (for TypeScript and Pyright)nodejs.org
Java runtime (for JDT LS)github.com/adoptium (Temurin)
gopls (Go)built by your own Go: go install golang.org/x/tools/gopls
Syntax grammarsgithub.com/kouji-dev/orrery-releases
  • Behind a proxy or firewall, allow those hosts.
  • gopls needs Go 1.23 or newer on your PATH; without it the install says so. Get Go from https://go.dev/dl, then install again.

Switching modes

With a session selected in Agent mode, switching to IDE mode opens that session's workspace (its files, not a terminal on it). A session on another machine cannot open in IDE mode, and the ADE says why.

Keys

KeyDoes
Ctrl+KShow all commands.
Shift ShiftSearch everywhere.
Ctrl+PGo to file.
Ctrl+Shift+FFind in files.
Ctrl+EnterCommit changes.
Ctrl+Shift+KPush.
Ctrl+Shift+NSpawn an agent.
Ctrl+,Settings.

Inside a focused terminal, plain Ctrl chords go to the program running there; Ctrl+Shift chords still reach the app. Settings → Keymap lists every binding and lets you rebind them.
